A Tree Climber at Plows Tree Service plays a crucial role in our tree care operations, ensuring the health, maintenance, and safety of trees within our service area. This position requires a blend of physical dexterity, a strong understanding of tree biology, and a commitment to safety protocols. Here are the key responsibilities for a Tree Climber:
Essential Duties:
Climbing and Aerial Operations: Safely climb trees using ropes, harnesses, and climbing gear to access and work in the canopy for pruning, trimming, and removals. Maneuver through branches with care for personal safety, tree health, and surrounding property.
Pruning and Tree Care: Perform targeted pruning and trimming to remove unsafe or diseased branches, improve tree structure, and enhance aesthetic appeal to support healthy growth.
Tree Removals and Rigging: Participate in tree removal operations, employing advanced rigging techniques to safely lower branches and tree sections, minimizing risk to people and property.
Ground Operations Support: Assist with ground-based tasks, including site preparation, traffic and safety zone setup, and post-job cleanup. Operate chippers, chainsaws, and other equipment to process debris.
Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance checks and ensure all climbing and cutting equipment is safe and operational, reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements. Proactively identify and mitigate job site hazards.
Team Collaboration: Work cohesively with the tree care team, communicating effectively to coordinate tasks, ensure safety, and complete projects efficiently. Support climbers and other crew members as needed.
Customer Interaction: Provide excellent customer service, representing Plows Tree Service professionally. Communicate with clients as necessary, addressing questions and ensuring their satisfaction with the services provided.
Continuous Learning: Participate in ongoing education and training opportunities to stay current on tree care practices, safety standards, and equipment technology.
Skills & Requirements:
Professional tree climber with 2+ years of experience
Experience in all aspects of tree removal, including pruning, crane removal, and aerial lift operation, is preferred
Some rope and rigging knowledge preferred, but not required
Tree equipment operation: chipper, skid steer, mini-loader, etc. experience is required
Knowledge in removing/pruning trees in accordance with ISA standards
Familiarity with OSHA rules & regulations
Certifications such as EHAP, ISA Certified Arborist, etc., are preferred but not required
Applicants must possess a clean driving record
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required
Applicants must successfully pass a screening for illegal substances to be considered for employment
A background check is required, though past criminal history will not necessarily disqualify applicants from consideration
Proficiency in English at an intermediate level or above is required
Applicants must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly and be prepared to work under various weather conditions
We are based in Brookfield, NY, and operate within a 30-mile radius. You must be willing to commute to Brookfield or provide your own transportation to job sites within our territory
Schedule, Hours & Pay:
20-40 hours per week, may vary with seasons and weather conditions
Work starts between 7 - 8 am, punctuality required, Monday-Friday, some weekend hours as needed
$18.00-$25.00 per hour, depending on experience
