How to identify hazardous trees
Yesterday, we were privileged to assist the Town of Plainfield by removing a hazardous maple. Upon inspection, we discovered the tree was hollow inside, further compromising its integrity. This is a prime example of how dying or even seemingly healthy trees can pose unforeseen dangers.
Tips to Recognize a Hazardous Tree
*Unusual Leaning: If you notice your tree leaning suddenly, it might be structurally unsound.
*Fungi at the Base: Fungi can be a sign of decay, particularly if you see mushrooms growing at the tree's base.
*Dead or Hanging Branches: Especially in the upper crown, these can indicate illness or stress.
*Hollow or Decaying Trunks: Like our recent maple discovery, a hollow trunk is a major red flag!
*Cracks in the Tree: Significant cracks can weaken a tree and make it a hazard.
